Elle Spose: interview with the wedding photographer

Presence and Absence: The Oxymoron of the Wedding Photographer Profession

In the world of reportage-style wedding photography, there is a delicate and fascinating balance that every professional must maintain: the ability to be constantly present and, at the same time, invisible. This is the central theme of the interview that I had the privilege of giving to Elle Spose. Focus on my art and my role, as a photographer, on the most important and anticipated day in people's lives: the wedding.

The Wedding Photographer

The wedding photographer is always "on the ball". His presence is essential: he must capture every crucial moment, every authentic emotion, every detail that makes that day unique. But, at the same time, his presence is discreet, almost evanescent. To obtain spontaneous and genuine images, it is essential that the bride and groom and the guests forget about his presence.

The Importance of Empathy

During the interview, I emphasized how empathy plays a key role in this profession. Every couple has their own story, their own way of experiencing love and the wedding day will be unique. Observing the events that follow one another on the wedding day is essential to create a photo shoot that truly reflects the essence of that couple.

Technique at the service of art: Obviously, being empathetic is not enough. Wedding photography is a discipline that requires impeccable technical mastery. The light, the composition, the choice of equipment: each element must be taken care of down to the smallest detail. But technique alone is not enough. It must be at the service of art and narration.

The Challenge of Spontaneity

One of the most complex – and most rewarding – aspects of my job is capturing spontaneity. Many couples think it is easier to photograph spontaneous moments; but this is not the case. In fact, my job is to capture spontaneous moments in a beautiful context, with the right light and a good photographic composition. It takes many years of experience, study and an innate artistic streak. The spouses laughing heartily, a knowing look between parents, children playing: these are the moments that truly tell a story. But to capture them, you must always be ready and, at the same time, go unnoticed.

A unique day, an immense responsibility

Every wedding is unique and unrepeatable. For a photographer, this translates into an immense responsibility. There are no second chances: every shot must be perfect, because it represents a moment that will never come back. During the interview, I talked about how this awareness is both a source of pressure and a motivation to give your best every time. When I meet a couple, I always recommend choosing the photographer who, with his photographic style, is closest to their tastes; but it is essential to rely on a professional who also knows how to overcome any unforeseen events, a wedding photographer is a guarantee.

The Relationship With The Spouses

I told Elle Spose that one of the best parts of my job is the relationship with the bride and groom. It's not just about taking pictures; it's about telling one of the most important days of their life. Sometimes the bride and groom contact me via email and we only meet on the wedding day. But thanks to my reputation that can be read in the reviews, to the international associations that recognize the quality of my photographs, the bride and groom place great trust in me.

In fact, this requires mutual trust, "my bride and groom" must enjoy their day and trust me for the photo shoot in total tranquility. I will work with the certainty of having been "chosen" to appreciate my photographic style.

The Evolution of Wedding Photography

Wedding photography has changed a lot in recent years. Once upon a time, a more posed and formal style prevailed. Today, however, the aim is to tell a story in an authentic way, with images that capture the essence of the day. I explained how I myself have embraced this approach, always trying to innovate and experiment. I am, in fact, a member of an international association of wedding photojournalists, the WPJA (see the associations). My shots receive awards (see the awarded pictures) from judges who recognize the spontaneous shot with correct light and composition.

Recognition and Gratitude

Being recognized among the best wedding photographers in Sicily is an honor that fills me with pride. But it is also a recognition that I share with all the couples who have placed their trust in me. Every wedding I photograph is a piece of a professional and human journey that never ceases to enrich me.

My interview with Elle Spose, curated by the journalist Fabiola Ballarin, was a precious opportunity to reflect on the profound meaning of my work. Being a wedding photographer means living constantly in balance between presence and absence, between technique and emotion, between responsibility and creativity. It is a job that requires absolute dedication, but which also gives immense satisfaction.

And as I look to the future, I can only be grateful for every couple who has allowed me to tell their story and for every challenge that this extraordinary job has placed before me.
